Invitation
As all of us are aware, one of the important objectives of the Church is to greatly increase the number of people actively involved in family history worldwide. The Church would also like to make everyone’s family history journey easier, more efficient, and more enjoyable. To help facilitate this work in our ward, we, together with Amy VanWoerkom (representing the Relief Society presidency), Dan Richards (representing the Elders Quorum presidency) along with Laurel McFarland, Bill and Elaine Resare have been asked to assist as Temple and Family History Consultants. We are further assisted by our ward YM and YW leaders. We serve as “librarians” in identifying sources that ward members can utilize in working toward the above goal.
Please review the following important information that was sent to us by Lee and Lyn Ashby, Christy Pugh, and others from our stake and the Family History Center to assist our ward members in taking advantage of these resources and to encourage their temple attendance, which is currently accomplished by setting up a temple appointment online.
The Granite Family History Center at 2720 East Newcastle Drive, Sandy has been designated as our stake’s principal Family History Center. Below is the latest information just received from the Center:
Hours
Tuesday - Thursday: 10 am - 5 pm, 7 pm - 9 pm
Sunday: 1 pm - 5 pm
Youth hours: Tues - Thurs, 3 pm to 5 pm
The consultants at the center are required to wear masks, but it is not required for patrons.
Classes
There are weekly Family History Zoom classes on Tuesdays at 7 pm. The winter session will start on January 11th. The schedule and link to join the classes can be found on https://www.granitefhc.com/classes/.
Group Appointments
The center is open for group appointments if any groups (youth, Relief Society, Elders Quorum, etc.) would like to come in to use the center. There are two rooms with about 25 computers in each. Groups are welcome to bring their own instructor (usually a ward temple family history consultant) or if they are interested in having one from the center, that may be accommodated as well. To schedule an appointment, please call or text Jacque Fryer at 801-943-3005 or [email protected].
Scanners and Media Conversion
The center is equipped with high speed photo and flatbed scanners for patrons to use during center hours. No appointment is necessary. We also provide services for converting various types of media such as 35 mm slides, reel-to-reel audio tapes and VHS tapes.
